From October through April, a winter house cleaning in Fairbanks and Anchorage comes down to four places: the entry, the floors, the bathrooms, and the dust the heat leaves behind. Fairbanks adds wood-stove film. Anchorage adds street salt and grit from a gravel drive.
This is the list our crews work in both cities. HD Clean is licensed, bonded, and insured. Technicians are background-checked. We are at 4.9 stars across 226 Google reviews. Fairbanks is (907) 917-4646. Anchorage is (907) 917-3777.
The winter list
| Spot | What winter does | What the visit does |
|---|---|---|
| Entry and boot tray | Salt, sand, and later breakup mud | Vacuum and mop the first stretch inside the door |
| Hard floors | A salt haze and tracked grit | A damp mop. A dry sweep leaves the salt sitting there. |
| Bathrooms | Steam in a shut house, and soap film | Scrub the toilet, the sink, and the shower you use |
| Kitchen | Grease and a floor that gets walked all day | Counters, sink, stove face, and the kitchen floor |
| Fairbanks wood heat | Fine gray film on sills and shelves | Dust those surfaces on every visit |
| Window tracks | Grit you can see in the track | A deep clean. A weekly visit does not pull every track. |
Fairbanks: the stove and the shut house
At -40 the windows stay closed for months. The stove puts film on the mantel, the TV stand, and the top of the fridge, along with the hearth. The entry takes whatever is on the boots. A recurring visit hits both. North Pole, Badger, Fox, and Ester get the same work from the Fairbanks crew. Book it on maid service in Fairbanks. If you are on Badger Road, the local page is cleaning service in Badger. North Pole is cleaning service in North Pole.
Anchorage: salt and the mudroom
Salt and sand come off boots into the first few feet of floor. A gravel drive does the same job with summer dust and spring mud. A damp mop picks the salt up. We do not refinish floors, and we do not shovel the walk. The booking page is house cleaning in Anchorage. Recurring work is maid service in Anchorage.
What to do before we arrive
Clear the counters and the bathroom vanities if you can. Lock a dog that lunges. Leave a note with the three spots that bother you, usually the kitchen, the bathroom you use, and the entry. We clean around piles of mail. We bring the supplies.
When the list is bigger than one Saturday
A weekly or every-other-week visit holds the list above. It does not pull a winter of film out of window tracks or off every baseboard. That is a deep clean, and in Anchorage it books on deep house cleaning in Anchorage. After that, how often you clean is the part that keeps November from looking like March. The seasonal reset, when the house opens back up, is seasonal Alaska prep.
Questions, answered
What is on a winter house cleaning checklist?
The entry and boot tray, hard floors, bathrooms, and the kitchen. In Fairbanks, add the fine film a wood stove leaves on sills and shelves. In Anchorage, add salt and grit in the mudroom. Window tracks are a deep clean, not every weekly visit.
How do you get salt off floors in winter?
A damp mop. A dry sweep leaves the salt on the floor. We do that on the visit. We do not refinish floors.
How often should you clean during an Alaska winter?
Every other week for most homes. Weekly if a wood stove runs every night, or if kids and pets keep tracking the entry through the house. A deep clean about every three to four months clears the film a regular visit does not.
Does a wood stove mean more cleaning?
Yes, through the heating season. The dust is fine and it lands on sills, shelves, and the top of the fridge. A recurring visit dusts those surfaces every time. One wipe in November does not hold a stove that runs through March.
